The nomination period for the 2026 Municipal and School Board Election is official open as of May 1, 2026.

Individuals interested in running for the offices of Mayor, Deputy Mayor, or Councillor are encouraged to review the requirements and begin the nomination process.

The Township of Hamilton is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of an Ontario Provincial Police officer following a fatal motorcycle collision on Highway 401 on April 27, 2026. On behalf of Council and staff, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues with the Ontario Provincial Police. Our thoughts are with all who are mourning this devastating loss. As flags are already lowered in recognition of the National Day of Mourning, the Township will continue to keep flags at half-mast in honour and respect for Officer Malcolm.

The Township of Hamilton is pleased to announce that it has received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting (CAnFR) from the Government Finance Officers Association for its 2024 Annual Financial Report. This marks the first time the Township has earned this distinguished recognition, which honours excellence in governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The Township of Hamilton has implemented an alternative dispute resolution program for By-law enforcement. The system is an alternative to the existing provincial courts process that is generally lengthy, costly and challenging. The Administrative Monetary Penalty (AMP) System transfers By-law disputes from the courtroom to the Township using Screening and Hearing Officers who can modify, cancel, or confirm designated penalties. This approach aides in reducing congestion in the courts as well as providing a simplified more local and accessible dispute resolution system.

TAKE NOTICE that pursuant to the provisions of By-Law 2017-57, the Provision of Public Notice Policy, 
the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Hamilton intends to pass a by-law to adopt a new 
Procedural By-law at its regular meeting of Tuesday May 19, 2026.

School support designations should be reviewed and, if needed, updated by June 1, 2026, to be accurately included on the Preliminary List of Electors for the election on October 26, 2026.
