A reminder to all residents of the Township of Hamilton that beginning April 1, 2026, daytime burning is not permitted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. seven days a week, including holidays. Agricultural and Commercial day time burns must be approved by the Fire Department. To review the complete Open Air Burn By-law and to obtain a burn permit, please visit ht.burnpermits.com
Today, Enbridge Gas Ontario (Enbridge Gas) and the Hamilton Township Fire Department announced they are working together to improve home safety and bring fire and carbon monoxide-related deaths down to zero.
The Township of Hamilton is proud to support the annual “Saved by the Beep” campaign, a province-wide initiative that highlights the importance of working smoke alarms in every home. Saturday, September 28, 2025, residents are encouraged to take a few moments to test all smoke alarms in their homes.

Open Air Burn Ban Lifted – Effective August 27, 2025
Based on significant rainfall, cooler temperatures and more rain in the forecast the County-wide Open Air Burn Ban has been lifted in Northumberland County, effective immediately.
Due to extremely dry conditions and deteriorating air quality caused by ongoing wildland fires across Ontario and Manitoba, a County-wide Open Air Burn Ban is being implemented in Northumberland County, including the Township of Hamilton, effective immediately.
Environment Canada has issued a Special Air Quality Statement for Northumberland County due to wildfire smoke. Residents are encouraged to take precautions to protect their health and stay informed through the HKPR District Health Unit and Environment Canada’s alert services.
