Statement from Mayor Jibb Regarding the Fatality of OPP Officer Brandon Malcolm

Statement from Mayor Scott Jibb - April 28, 2026

On behalf of Council and the Township of Hamilton, I want to express our sincere condolences following the tragic loss of OPP officer Brandon Malcolm on Highway 401.

This is a heartbreaking loss for the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues, and our thoughts are with them at this very difficult time. We also want to thank the first responders who were there to help in such difficult circumstances.

On this National Day of Mourning, we are reminded of the risks so many workers take every day in service to others. In honour of Officer Malcolm, Township flags will remain at half-mast tomorrow as a sign of respect.

Our community stands with the OPP and all those affected by this tragedy.
