Heat and Air Quality Warnings in Effect

Lakelands Public Health has advised that heat and air quality warnings are currently in effect for the Haliburton, Kawartha, Northumberland and Peterborough region. Residents are encouraged to take extra precautions to protect themselves from the combined impacts of high temperatures and wildfire smoke.

During periods of extreme heat and poor air quality:

  • Stay indoors where possible, especially if you are experiencing symptoms.
  • Keep windows and doors closed if smoke is present outdoors.
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  • Check the Air Quality Health Index forecast daily.
  • Limit strenuous outdoor activities and reschedule them for cooler times of the day if possible.
  • Check in on older adults, neighbours, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to heat or poor air quality.
  • If you must be outdoors, consider reducing the length and intensity of your activities.

People most at risk include older adults, infants and young children, pregnant individuals, people with heart or lung conditions, and those who work or exercise outdoors.

Residents are welcome to cool off during regular operating hours at Township facilities, including:

  • Township Administration Office, 8285 Majestic Hills Drive
  • Baltimore Recreation Centre, 23 Community Centre Road
  • Bewdley Community Centre, 7060 Lake Street
