Earth Day and Mayors’ Keep the County Clean Challenge
The Township of Hamilton invites all community members to participate in the 16th annual Mayors’ Keep the County Clean Challenge, taking place April 19 to April 25, 2026.
Community members are encouraged to register with the Township to take part in a community clean-up by collecting litter in neighbourhoods, including roadsides, parks, and trails.
Participants may register by contacting the Township Office at 905-342-2810 and select a location within the Township where you plan to clean. Full bags of collected litter may be left in a visible and safe location along the roadside of the clean-up area for municipal staff to collect. Participants are reminded that large, hazardous, or dangerous items must not be handled. If such items are discovered, please report them to the Township so that staff can arrange for safe removal.
Gloves, safety vests, and garbage bags will be available for pick-up between April 13 to 25 from the Township Office at 8285 Majestic Hills Drive during office hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Municipalities across Northumberland County will be recognized based on volunteer participation and litter collected per participant. In 2025, a total of 2,472 registered volunteers across Northumberland County rolled up their sleeves to remove litter and illegal dumping from public spaces. The Township of Hamilton earned second place in 2025 in both the 'Highest Proportional Representation of Volunteers' and 'Hardest Working Volunteer's' categories, clearing 10.4 kg of waste per volunteer from our community.
Thank you to all of our community members and volunteers who help keep the Township clean and healthy!
