Administrative Monetary Penalty (AMP) System
The Township of Hamilton has implemented an Administrative Monetary Penalty System (AMPS) to provide an efficient and streamlined process for addressing certain by-law violations.
AMPS applies to designated by-laws, including Parking and Pool Enclosure regulations, and serves as an alternative to the court-based process under the Provincial Offences Act.
Under this system, individuals who receive an Administrative Monetary Penalty Notice have the following options:
- Payment of the penalty, which concludes the matter; or
- Request for a Screening Review, where a Screening Officer will review the penalty notice and any submitted information.
If the recipient disagrees with the decision of the Screening Officer, they may request a Hearing Review. A Hearing Officer will then conduct a review and issue a final and binding decision.
The AMPS program is intended to provide a fair, accessible, and timely process for resolving by-law infractions.
Requests for a Screening or Hearing Review may be submitted online at hamiltontownship.ca/AMPS.
