Summer Maintenance

As the weather warms up, our Public Works team shifts focus to maintaining and improving our roads for the seasons ahead. Below are some of the key services you can expect to see our crews activating during the spring and summer months.

Pothole Repairs

Pothole repairs are carried out year-round to meet provincial safety standards. Repairs are prioritized based on several factors, including road type, traffic volume, and the size and severity of the pothole.

Our roads are regularly inspected by patrol staff, but your input helps us respond more quickly. If you notice a pothole, please report it to help us keep our roads safe and in good condition.

Street Sweeping

Street sweeping begins each spring to help keep our roads clean and safe. This service removes sand, dirt, and debris from gutters and roadsides, helping to prevent storm drain blockages and improve overall road conditions.

Ditching and Catch Basin Clearing

In the spring, ditches and culverts often need to be cleared of leaves and other debris that may have built up over the winter. Keeping these areas clear helps prevent flooding and reduces damage to roads, such as potholes and cracks.

Residents can help by avoiding raking leaves or yard waste into ditches. Clear culverts allow water to flow properly and protect our roads throughout the year.

Grading

To help extend the life of our gravel roads, the Township grades them regularly each year as needed. Grading smooths the surface and packs down the road base, helping to maintain the proper shape, height, and drainage.

This ongoing maintenance keeps gravel roads safe, stable, and in good condition for all users.

Line Painting

To maintain safe and clearly marked roads, Township crews reapply line paint as needed throughout the year. Fresh line markings improve visibility for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, helping everyone travel safely.

Call Before You Dig

Are you thinking of digging as part of a project or home improvement (such as building a fence, flower bed, deck, etc)? Contact Ontario One Call at 1-800-400-2255 before you dig. It is the law. Ontario One Call is a call centre that receives dig locate requests to make sure homeowners, diggers and property owners are safe when digging.

Ontario One Call alerts the infrastructure owners of your digging plans and contact information. Infrastructure owners can then provide locates, drawing, and/or clearances, lowering the risk of property damage, lost of utilities, injury, and penalties/fines.

Locates can be markings on the ground or a statement/email from the infrastructure owner that its buried infrastructure will not be affected by the digging.

You can visit the Ontario One Call website to learn more about their services.
