Roads

The Township of Hamilton’s Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining 299 km of municipal roads, along with bridges, culverts, signage, and storm infrastructure. Seasonal work includes snow removal, grading, mowing, and general road maintenance. Drivers are asked to slow down and use caution in work zones to help keep crews and road users safe.

The Township does not maintain county roads, provincial highways, or privately owned roads. For more information, please refer to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act.

Service requests

Submit a service request or report a concern related to roads, water service, parks, recreation facilities, and more. Our team will follow up as needed and may request additional information or forms to help address your request.

Parking

The Township of Hamilton enforces parking regulations to help keep our roads safe and accessible for everyone.

To learn more about where and when you can park, visit our By-law Enforcement webpage.

Half Load Restrictions

During the spring thaw, Township roads become too soft to support fully loaded trucks. To protect road conditions, weight limits are reduced to half loads (5 tonnes per axle) from approximately mid-February to late April. To help minimize damage, please avoid scheduling heavy deliveries during this period.

Call Before You Dig

Are you thinking of digging as part of a project or home improvement (such as building a fence, flower bed, deck, etc)? Contact Ontario One Call at 1-800-400-2255 before you dig. It is the law. Ontario One Call is a call centre that receives dig locate requests to make sure homeowners, diggers and property owners are safe when digging.

Ontario One Call alerts the infrastructure owners of your digging plans and contact information. Infrastructure owners can then provide locates, drawing, and/or clearances, lowering the risk of property damage, lost of utilities, injury, and penalties/fines.

Locates can be markings on the ground or a statement/email from the infrastructure owner that its buried infrastructure will not be affected by the digging.

You can visit the Ontario One Call website to learn more about their services.
