ORV Season is Open!

From April 1 to November 30, ORVs may operate on permitted roads between dawn and dusk only. Riding outside of these dates or times is not permitted and may result in fines.

Where to Ride

Permitted Roads

  • All 299 km of Township of Hamilton roads
  • The following sections of Northumberland County roads (under By-law #27-2022):
    • County Rd 9 (Oak Ridges Dr): Rice Lake Dr S to Main St
    • County Rd 18 (Burnham St N): Hillview Dr to Lakeshore Dr
    • County Rd 45 (Baltimore Rd): Hickerson Rd to Meyers Rd
    • County Rd 74 (Dale Rd):
      • Ontario St to Cornish Hollow Rd
      • Division St N to Racetrack Rd

Excluded Roads

ORVs are not allowed on other sections of County roads, including:

  • County Rd 2
  • County Rd 15 (Harwood Rd)
  • County Rd 28
  • Unlisted portions of County Roads 9, 18, 45, and 74

ATV Trail Map

Northumberland County Forest’s off-road recreational trail system is a mix of forest roads, double-track and, for off-road motorcycles, single-track trails. All motorized trails are shared with non-motorized users.

Please note: ATV and Off-Road Motorcyclists must have a membership with a partner organization. For ATV memberships, please visit the Northumberland and District ATV Riders website.

Permitted:

  • All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs)
  • Utility Task Vehicles (UTVs)
  • Side-by-sides

Not Permitted:

  • Off-road motorcycles
  • Extreme utility vehicles (6–8 wheels)
  • Golf carts
  • Vehicles with modified exhaust systems

Yes. All riders must:

  • Wear an approved helmet
  • Carry valid insurance

Enforced under the Highway Traffic Act by the Northumberland OPP.

Township fines (By-law #2021-48):

  • Riding outside of permitted season/hours: $200
  • Modified exhaust system: $200

Highway Traffic Act fines may apply for:

  • No helmet
  • No insurance
  • Speeding
  • Unsafe or impaired operation

Report a Concern or Ask a Question

If you witness unsafe ORV activity such as speeding, lack of helmets or insurance, excessive noise from modified exhausts, trespassing, or property damage, please contact the Northumberland OPP. Call 9-1-1 for emergencies or 905-372-5421 for non-emergency concerns.
