Local Government Week

Each year, Local Government Week is a chance to celebrate the people, services, and programs that keep the Township of Hamilton running smoothly. From maintaining roads and parks, to managing development, finances, and community safety, your local government plays an important role in shaping daily life.

Local Government Week is about more than services, it’s about transparency, connection, and celebrating the teamwork that makes the Township of Hamilton a great place to live, work, and play.

Community Connect Day

We’re excited to welcome you to Community Connect Day, a celebration of our local government and the community it serves. With a variety of fun activities and informative booths, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to stop by and join the fun!

Location: Baltimore Recreation Centre, 23 Community Centre Rd.

This event is rain or shine!

  • Local Northumberland County organizations and departments including archives, paramedics, county forest, social services, and more!
  • Elections Ontario: learn about elections and get registered to vote!
  • Cobourg Public Library: sign up for your library card and learn about programs and services
  • Free public skate 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Touch-a-Truck featuring vehicles from the Township of Hamilton Public Works and Fire Services, Northumberland OPP and paramedics
  • Meet and Greet with Council and Staff
  • EarlyON activities and button making station

Scavenger Hunt

Get ready to discover more about your local government in a fun and interactive way!

You can take part in person around the Township and online through our website. Your mission is to find the answers to the questions below and fill in the blanks as you go. Once you’ve completed your sheets, submit them through our online submission form or at the Township Office at 8285 Majestic Hills Drive, for a chance to win some cool swag!

Grab your Scavenger Hunt Sheet by downloading it on this page or picking one up at the Township Office at 8285 Majestic Hills Drive.

  • Online clues: Explore our Township website to find the answers.

  • In-person clues: Visit the locations around the Township to discover the answers firsthand.

Once you’ve filled in all your answers, submit your completed sheets by October 24, 2025 for a chance to win a prize!

The 2025 Local Government Week Scavenger Hunt is open to all ages. Play on your own, with your family, or with friends.

Be sure to submit your completed sheet by October 24, 2025. Submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted.

Winners will be drawn at random from all correct entries submitted by the deadline.

The Development Services team brings together Building, Bylaw Enforcement, and Planning to support safe and responsible growth across our community. Their work helps residents, businesses, and developers navigate projects while preserving the character of the Township.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Planning and Zoning: Guiding land use and development to ensure projects fit within the community’s vision.

  • Building: Reviewing applications and issuing permits for construction, renovations, and additions.

  • Bylaw Enforcement: Helping residents understand and comply with local regulations to maintain a safe and orderly community. 

Whether it’s building a new deck, applying for a land severance, or addressing a property matter, the Development Services team is there to provide guidance and expertise every step of the way.

Corporate Services plays a central role in keeping local government organized, transparent, and accountable. Their work ensures that residents, Council, and staff have the support and information they need to keep the Township running smoothly.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Council Support: Preparing agendas, minutes, and reports to help Council make informed decisions.

  • Records Management: Maintaining official municipal records and ensuring public access to information.

  • Elections: Managing municipal elections with fairness, accuracy, and transparency.

  • Licensing and Permits: Issuing various licenses to support community needs and compliance.

Corporate Services provides the essential behind-the-scenes work that keeps Township operations efficient, accountable, and responsive to the community.

The Township of Hamilton’s Employee Relations team plays a key role in creating a safe, healthy, and inclusive workplace for all municipal staff. Their work ensures employees have the support, resources, and guidance needed to serve the community effectively.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Recruitment and Hiring: Attracting and welcoming talented individuals to join the Township team.

  • Onboarding and Training: Providing new staff with the knowledge and tools to succeed in their roles.

  • Health and Safety: Promoting safe work practices and ensuring a secure work environment for all employees.

  • Employee Support: Offering guidance, resources, and programs that foster well-being and inclusion.

Employee Relations helps staff thrive, which in turn strengthens the services provided to the Township and its residents.

The Finance Department plays a vital role in managing the Township's finances to ensure that every tax dollar is used efficiently, responsibly, and transparently. Our work helps keep the community financially strong while supporting the services residents rely on every day.

Key areas of focus include:

The Finance Department ensures that Township resources are well-managed, services run smoothly, and residents stays informed about how their money is invested back into the community.

The Fire Department is dedicated to keeping residents, property, and the environment safe. Their work combines emergency response, prevention, and education to ensure the community is prepared for a wide range of situations.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Emergency Response: Responding quickly to fires, medical calls, and other urgent incidents across the Township.

  • Fire Prevention and Inspections: Conducting safety inspections, issuing burn permits, and ensuring buildings meet fire safety standards.

  • Public Education: Delivering programs and resources to help residents stay informed and prepared for emergencies.

The Fire Department is always ready to serve, providing protection, guidance, and peace of mind to the Township community.

The Township of Hamilton’s Parks and Recreation team plays a key role in making the community vibrant, active, and welcoming. Their work ensures residents have safe, clean, and enjoyable spaces to gather, play, and connect.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Parks and Greenspaces: Maintaining and enhancing public spaces for recreation and relaxation.

  • Programs and Events: Delivering seasonal activities, classes, and community events for all ages.

  • Facilities Management: Overseeing arenas, halls, and other community spaces to ensure they are safe and accessible.

  • Community Enjoyment: Supporting residents’ recreational and leisure experiences throughout the Township.

Whether it’s booking a hall, enjoying the arena, or taking a stroll through a local park, the Parks and Recreation team helps make the Township a welcoming and enjoyable place for everyone.

The Public Works Department plays a vital role in maintaining the community’s road and water infrastructure, ensuring residents’ safety and convenience every day. Their work keeps roadways and water systems in top condition, no matter the season.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Road Maintenance: Plowing snow, repairing roads, and ensuring safe travel throughout the Township.

  • Water Management: Overseeing the supply and quality of municipal water to support daily life.

  • Seasonal Operations: Adapting services to meet the needs of the community year-round.

Public Works is always working behind the scenes to ensure the Township remains safe, connected, and ready for residents’ everyday needs.
