Core services

Fire protection in Ontario is a municipal responsibility. The level and amount of fire protection provided is determined by the residents of the community through decisions made by and support provided by the local municipal council. The services provided by a municipal fire department are called core services. The fire department establishing and regulating by-laws state the core services.

Training

The department continues to offer high quality extensive training to its members. We train to NFPA certification for all firefighters and officers and provide core specific training to ensure that the department attains compliance with the fire service standards.

All firefighters take part in competency training for the following:

  • NFPA 1001 Firefighter I and Firefighter II
  • Hazmat awareness
  • Confined space awareness
  • Driver training
  • First aid, CPR, defib and basic life support
  • Live fire
